Biography

Aryan Arora (b. 1999), born in Saharanpur, India, is a multidisciplinary visual and performance artist currently based in Singapore. He holds a degree from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore, and a Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths University of London. Aryan’s practice is an incisive exploration of identity, societal norms, and the complex interplay between the personal and the collective.

His work challenges entrenched taboos and cultural expectations by giving voice to narratives often overlooked or suppressed within contemporary society. Through his distinctive monochromatic palette and striking use of latex-like, faceless figures, Aryan constructs a symbolic visual language that interrogates the dualities of human experience—presence and absence, vulnerability and concealment, tradition and progress. The abstracted, mask-like forms in his paintings and performances function as metaphors for the personas individuals adopt to navigate the multifaceted roles imposed by society. His art delves into the tension between authenticity and performance, inviting viewers to reflect on the ways people protect and conceal their true selves while adapting to external pressures.

Aryan’s practice transcends traditional mediums, encompassing canvases, live art performances, murals, and graffiti, all of which demonstrate his commitment to addressing the social fabric through a critical and emotive lens. His works not only provoke dialogue but also act as sites for catharsis and healing, encouraging an empathetic engagement with themes of identity, transformation, and the human condition

His work has been exhibited widely at prestigious venues such as the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, Art SG, Instinc Art Space, Visual Arts Gallery Singapore, The Substation Gallery, Singapore Art Museum, Art Dubai, Google Headquarters Singapore, and Mumbai International Airport, among others.

Through his art, Aryan Arora advocates for the liberation of the authentic self amidst societal masks, fostering a space for self-discovery and emotional resonance. His ongoing journey continues to push boundaries, inviting audiences to confront and embrace the complexities of contemporary life.
